904L (UNS N08904) is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. It has good corrosion resistance in dilute sulfuric acid and is specially designed for harsh corrosive environment. It has high chromium content and sufficient nickel content.
904L is a multipurpose 20 Cr - 4.3 Mo high corrosion resistance austenitic stainless steel . Due to combined additions of chromium (20%), molybdenum (4.3%), copper (1.5%) combined with its high nickel content,the addition of copper makes it have strong acid resistance, especially high resistance to chloride clearance corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, and is not prone to corrosion spots and cracks. Its pitting resistance is slightly better than other steel grades.
904L (UNS N08904) offers optimal corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties. It has good machinability and weldability, and can be used for pressure vessels.This stainless steel alloy is commonly used in applications requiring higher levels of corrosion and heat resistance. 904L alloy is particularly used in sulphuric and phosphoric acids applications.
