AMS 5537 is a specification for Cobalt Alloy, Corrosion and Heat-Resistant, Sheet, Strip, Foil, and Plate, This specification covers a corrosion and heat-resistant cobalt alloy in the form of sheet, strip, foil, and plate up to 2.250 inches (57.15 mm) inclusive, in nominal thickness.
Cobalt L605 (also known as alloy 25) is a cobalt-based superalloy with high levels of chromium and tungsten. It is characterized by outstanding high-temperature strength up to 1500 °F (1093 °C), excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures up to 2000 °F (1093 °C) in corrosive environments, and superior resistance to sulfidation wear and galling.
Cobalt Alloy L605 Sheet also has good sulfidation resistance and is well known for resistance to wear and galling. Alloy L605 is used in applications requiring moderate strength and good oxidation resistance at high temperatures. L605 is non-magnetic, and the high chromium content provides resistance to corrosion in a wide range of environments such as marine, hydrochloric and nitric acids, and wet chlorine.

Working
This cobalt alloy features good fabricability, and it can be machined, welded, and formed through most standard methods. Welding using a submerged arc welding process is not recommended, but other methods like tungsten arc, shielded metal arc, and gas metal arc welding are acceptable - use minimum restraint and low interpass temperatures, with rapid cooling afterward. Alloy 25 is very ductile, with good forming characteristics for both hot and cold working.
