AMS 5893 is a sub-type of Nickel Incoloy 909 that features exceptionally stable thermal expansion coefficient and constant modulus of elasticity.

Incoloy 909 is a nickel-cobalt-iron alloy which features high strength to ensure maximum safety. The alloy increases strength-to-weight ratios for lower weight in aircraft engines and rocket-engine thrust chambers. Moreover, its low expansion enables closer control of clearances and tolerances for greater power output and fuel efficiency.

Incoloy 909 is manufactured to 3 AMS specs: AMS 5884, AMS 5892, and AMS 5893, which are all typically used for parts requiring a combination of high strength and low expansion properties up to 1200 °F (649 °C). The metal’s ability to function under high temperatures and severe mechanical stress make it perfect for gas turbine, aerospace, gauge block, and glass sealing applications.

This makes it ideal for very high-precision applications that call for extreme measurement or calibration precision. A typical application of the AMS 5892 is the manufacturing of gauge blocks that will not be affected by high temperatures. The particular allow can be hot worked between 1800℉ (982℃) and 1900℉ (1038℃), and must be air cooled instead of water quenched.
