MP35N is a nickel, chromium, cobalt alloy. This grade is non-magnetic and possesses an ultra-high tensile strength, and provides for good ductility. This alloy has a maximum 750 degree F temperature capability. In addition, it has excellent corrosion resistance as well to chloride solutions, mineral acids, and in hydrogen sulfides.

The ability of MP35N Cobalt Alloy to resist stress-corrosion and crevice corrosion often leads to to its selection as a fastener material, although its uses also include petrochemical equipment, racing engines and submersibles as well as medical devices and dental equipment. This alloy is typically work-strengthened and aged to obtain strength levels of 260 to 300 ksi.

MP35N possesses excellent corrosion resistance in harsh oil and gas environments including seawater, chloride brines, sweet gas, and sour gas. It is the highest strength alloy approved in NACE MR0175 for use inunrestricted sour service, offering an unmatched combination of strength and corrosion resistance. The unique capabilities of MP35N are derived from the alloy’s chemistry, premium melting technology, cold-working, and heat treatment.

Resistance

MP35N is suited for applications that require extreme resistance and durability, making it worthwhile for environments like off-shore oil rigs. MP35N Cobalt Bar has a limit of 750°F capacity, as well as great resistance to chloride solutions, saltwater, acidic material including mineral acids, hydrogen components, stress, corrosion, and more.

Processing

MP35N is available in three different conditions which are NACE, AMS 5844, and AMS 5845. For AMS 5844 equipment, MP35N will be hardened at ~1100°F. This material is vulnerable to climates with extreme heat temperatures above its recommended heat treatment.
For equipment that requires NACE MR0175, MP35N with excellent sulfide stress cracking resistance, or jobs that do not require cryogenic environments, the material will be heat treated at ~1350°F.

Heat Treatment

MP35N has a relatively high melting point of up to 1440 °C. In a short period of time (a manner of minutes) at 1010-1177°C, alloy MP35N will fully anneal. Depending on what condition you need, we will heat treat alloy bar stock to your specifications.

The high strength of MP35N is created by a combination of work hardening and an age hardening heat treatment. Yield strength in the high-strength cold-worked-and-aged condition can exceed 260 ksi (1793 MPa) with ductility near 40% reduction of area. Much of the strengthening occurs during cold working, and the annealed properties are like many stainless steels. Typical properties in the annealed condition are 150 ksi ultimate tensile strength, 60 ksi yield strength, 68% elongation, and 75% reduction or area.
