Vicalloy I is supplied to customers in the solution-treating condition which is very ductile. In this condition, it can be punched, formed, bent, drawn and machined.
After fabrication, it requires an aging heat-treatment at a temperature between 600 and 700°C for periods of 2 to 6 hours.
During aging, a second phase precipitates which is vanadium rich. This precipitation results in both physical and magnetic hardening. The hardness produced is typically Rc 60. After aging, the material may only be ground.
