ASTM A276/XM-11/UNS S21904 Product Description
ASTM A 276/XM-11/UNS S21904 alloy is one of the most widely used stainless steels. It combines high yield strength and good corrosion resistance. The yield strength at room temperature is approximately twice that of 304, 321, and 347 stainless steel. In addition, it also provides excellent high-temperature performance and maintains high strength and toughness at sub zero temperatures.
ASTM A276 Type XM-11 is a material grade specifcation for cold-finished or hot-finished bars in XM-11 stainless steel, availalble in fom of rounds, square, hexagons and other hot roled extruded shapes.
Lork Group XM-11 bars, shafs, angle, channel, beam profles, boltsstuds, screws, nuts, threaded rods, pins and other bar stock components to astm a276 type XM-11 specification.

The austenite of chromium nickel manganese nitrogen austenitic stainless steel S21904 is very stable, and even after 60% cold working, it can still maintain its non-magnetic properties. It has good strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance, with room temperature strength twice that of general austenitic stainless steels such as 304, 321, 347, etc. This steel not only has good strength and toughness, but also has good processability, corrosion resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance. It has high strength and good toughness at a low temperature of 253 ℃, and also has good high-temperature performance. This steel grade is widely used in aviation and low-temperature fields. Although it has high strength, it can still be produced using the same method as ordinary austenitic stainless steel.
Corrosion resistance of XM-11 (UNS S21904)
This steel grade has good corrosion resistance, with corrosion resistance between 304 and 316 in pharmaceutical, chemical, and marine environments. Its high-temperature oxidation resistance is greater than that of 304.
Due to containing only 0.04% carbon, the welding material is not sensitive to intergranular corrosion and can be used directly without heat treatment. However, like 304L, there is a tendency for intergranular corrosion when heated for a long time in the temperature range of 538-871 ℃.
In a hot chloride solution, the intergranular corrosion resistance of this steel is equivalent to that of 304 and 304L. The solid solution and sensitized samples showed no stress corrosion tendency even after being exposed to marine atmospheric environment for 3 and a half years.
Process performance of XM-11 (UNS S21904)
S21904 is easy to forge and shape. For billets larger than 10cm in size, it is required to be loaded into the furnace at 871 ℃ or below, then heated to 1204 ℃, and the final hot working temperature should not be lower than 927 ℃. Except for its higher deformation resistance compared to ordinary austenitic stainless steel, other processing is the same as ordinary austenitic stainless steel.
Welding various profiles of this steel grade is easy. In order to obtain mechanical and corrosion resistance properties that match the base material, 0Cr21Ni6Mn9NW welding wire can be used. If the requirements are not particularly strict, other welding wires can also be used as substitutes.
For low-temperature applications, materials smaller than 0.64cm can be welded using 0Cr21Ni6Mn9NW. For materials larger than 0.64cm, nickel based alloys are required to be used as welding wires.
Heat treatment is carried out within the temperature range of 1066-1211 ℃, followed by rapid cooling.
