Ni-Cr-Fe Solid-Solution Strengthened High-Temperature Alloy | Oxidation-Resistant up to 1180°C | Specialized for Petrochemical, Heat Treatment, and Energy Applications

ASTM B167 specification covers nickel-chromium-iron alloys (UNS N06601,N06600, N06603, N06690, N06693, N06025, N06045, and N06696) and nickel-chromium-cobalt molybdenum alloy (UNS N06617) in cold-worked annealed, hot-worked annealed, and hot-finished seamless pipe and tube intended for general corrosion resistant and heat resistant applications.

UNS N06601 (Inconel 601) pipe is a combination of nickel, chromium, and iron with small amounts of other elements such as aluminum and titanium. The 2.4851 material has good high temperature resistance and can withstand temperatures up to 1200°C (2200°F), making it suitable for high temperature furnace applications.

Inconel 601 seamless pipe resists a wide range of corrosive environments, including oxidation and carburization. Alloy 601 Tube also resists thermal shock, making it ideal for heat exchangers and aerospace applications. (Regarding seamless versus welded pipes: Seamless pipes involve a complex manufacturing process (hot extrusion followed by cold rolling or cold drawing) and higher costs; however, the absence of weld seams eliminates weak points, resulting in sealing capabilities and pressure resistance that far exceed those of welded pipes. Seamless pipes are the preferred choice for high-temperature and high-pressure applications.)

⚠️Key Difference: The"annealed state"typically involves full recrystallization followed by slow cooling; it offers the best ductility and is suitable for subsequent forming operations. The"solution-treated state"involves rapid cooling (water quenching) from high temperatures, resulting in slightly higher strength and hardness.

Purchasing Advice: If you plan to perform operations such as pipe bending or welding, the annealed state is more suitable. If the material is intended for direct installation without complex forming, the solution-treated state is also acceptable.

Use Cases: Find the one that fits your field

Scenario 1: Petrochemical/Chemical Industry — Cracking furnace tubes, heat exchangers
  • Operating Conditions: High temperature (800–1100°C), hydrocarbon atmosphere, sulfides, risk of carburization.
  • Why use Inconel 601: Excellent resistance to carburization and sulfidation, along with high-temperature strength. While ordinary stainless steel fails within months in such environments, 601 can last for years.
  • Recommended Form: Seamless pipe, annealed condition.
Scenario 2: Heat Treatment Industry — Radiant tubes, muffle pots, and tooling/fixtures
  • Operating Conditions: Frequent heating-cooling cycles, significant temperature fluctuations, and severe oxidation/spalling.
  • Why use Inconel 601: It offers exceptional resistance to oxide scale spalling; the oxide layer does not flake off during heating-cooling cycles.
  • Recommended Form: Seamless pipe/tubing, annealed condition.

Scenario 3: Power/Energy — Gas turbine piping, superheater tube supports
  • Operating Conditions: Erosion by high-temperature flue gas (>1000°C) + thermal cycling
  • Why use Inconel 601: High retention of high-temperature strength (>75% at 800°C) and high creep-rupture strength.
  • Recommended Form: Seamless pipe, solution-annealed condition.

Scenario 4: Environmental Protection/Solid Waste Treatment — Waste Incinerator Combustion Chamber
  • Operating Conditions: High temperature + Cl⁻/SO₂ corrosion + Frequent start-stop cycles
  • Why use Inconel 601: Resistance to sulfidation, chloride corrosion, and thermal fatigue.
  • Recommended Form: Seamless pipe/tubing, annealed condition.

Scenario 5: Aerospace — Engine exhaust nozzle bushings, exhaust systems
  • Operating Conditions: Extremely high temperatures + high-speed gas flow erosion
  • Why use Inconel 601:High-temperature oxidation resistance + resistance to gas flow erosion.
  • Recommended Form: Seamless pipe/thin-walled tubing, solution-annealed condition.
