316LVM (UNS S31673) is a Stainless Steel grade that is vacuum arc remelted in order to maximize corrosion resistance and provide a ferrite free micro structure. Specifically designed for medical and surgical applications.
This version of 316 Stainless Steel contains higher nickel, lower carbon, lower molybdenum and lower chromium content than standard 316L. It is often dual certified and referred to as 316LS Stainless Steel. It exhibits excellent resistance to a range of corrosive environments, including harsh chemicals, acids, alkalis, and chloride solutions. This makes it highly suitable for use in medical implants, devices, and bone screws that encounter bodily fluids or harsh sterilization processes.
316LVM Stainless Steel also offers excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength, good ductility, and high elongation. It has a low magnetic permeability, which is beneficial for certain medical applications where magnetic interference needs to be minimized.
