What Is MP35N?
MP35N is a multiphase alloy composed of nickel, cobalt, chromium, and molybdenum. This unique combination delivers an outstanding balance of ultra-high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and remarkable durability. It is especially valued in applications where materials are exposed to aggressive environments, including saltwater, acidic media, and high-stress mechanical conditions.
The alloy exhibits exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion, making it a preferred choice for high-performance springs, wire forms, and other components that require long-term functional integrity in challenging settings.

Key Applications of MP35N Springs and Wire Forms
Thanks to its superior properties, MP35N is widely used across industries where failure is not an option. Its ability to be cold worked and heat treated allows engineers to tailor its mechanical characteristics—such as tensile strength and stress corrosion resistance—to meet specific design requirements.
Common applications include:
- Compression Springs: MP35N compression springs are essential in medical devices, aerospace actuators, and subsea equipment, where reliability and resistance to corrosion are critical.
- Torsion Springs: Used in precision aerospace systems and deep-sea exploration tools, MP35N torsion springs provide consistent torque and elastic recovery under extreme operating conditions.
- Medical Springs: MP35N is biocompatible, making it suitable for implantable medical devices, surgical tools, and diagnostic equipment that demand high strength, non-magnetic properties, and resistance to bodily fluids.
- Wire Forms: From marine hardware to chemical processing components, MP35N wire forms offer superior performance and extended service life in corrosive and high-fatigue environments.
- Disc Springs: Particularly in oil and gas, aerospace, and medical industries, MP35N disc springs provide high load capacity and reliability in confined spaces under repeated loading cycles.
Heat Treatment Guidelines for MP35N
The final properties of MP35N are highly dependent on both the degree of cold work and the aging heat treatment applied. Proper thermal processing is essential to achieve the desired combination of strength and corrosion resistance.
- For heavily cold-worked material (such as AMS 5844), aging should be performed at 1000°F–1200°F (538°C–649°C) for approximately 4 hours.
- To optimize resistance to sulfide stress corrosion cracking (per NACE MR-0175 standards), less cold-worked material can be aged at 1300°F or 1350°F (704°C or 732°C) for 4 hours, or at 1425°F (774°C) for 6 hours.
- Aging at 425°F (218°C) offers the best sulfide SCC resistance but may result in lower mechanical strength.
- It is important to avoid exposing MP35N to temperatures significantly higher than those recommended for aging, as this can lead to irreversible softening and loss of strength due to the reversion of its cold-worked structure.
Why Choose MP35N?
MP35N stands out for its ability to deliver both ultra-high strength and exceptional corrosion resistance—a rare combination among engineering alloys. Its performance makes it an ideal material for applications requiring:
- Long-term functional integrity in hostile environments
- Miniaturization without loss of performance
- Compliance with stringent industry standards including aerospace (AMS), medical (ISO), and energy (NACE) specifications
Whether you are designing life-saving medical devices, robust aerospace mechanisms, or reliable marine systems, MP35N provides the engineering confidence needed to ensure product success.
