15-5 PH stainless steel is a martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel with approximately 15% Chromium and 5% Nickel. It has high strength, high hardness, and excellent corrosion resistance. Strength can be further increased by a single low temperature heat treatment. Compared to 17-4 PH, it offers better transverse toughness and ductility; better mechanical properties in larger cross-sections, and better forgeability. 15-5 PH is readily weldable. It can be machined in any of the several Thermal Conditions available to this grade.

The mechanical properties of 15-5pH materials are closely related to their composition and heat treatment conditions. Under solid solution treatment, its tensile strength can reach over 1800MPa and hardness is about 300HBW. By appropriate heat treatment, higher strength and hardness can be obtained. For example, through dual aging treatment, the tensile strength can reach 2600MPa and the hardness can reach 450HBW. In addition, 15-5pH materials also have good elongation and impact toughness, which make them excellent in various high-strength and corrosion-resistant environments.
15-5pH materials are widely used in various manufacturing fields due to their excellent strength and corrosion resistance. For example, it can be used to manufacture high-strength bolts and other fasteners, replacing traditional 304 stainless steel and other low alloy steels.
