1.4542 (17-4PH) is a structurally hardened martensitic stainless steel with a hardness of about 48 HRC and good corrosion resistance. It is ideal for applications demanding both mechanical performance and moderate corrosion resistance. Its properties are tailored through heat treatment, making it a critical material in the aerospace, energy, and industrial sectors.
Lork Group 17-4PH Stainless Steel has a number of sources in stock, as well as different formats or states of the product to suit your processing needs.

Applications
- Aerospace components (e.g., turbine blades, fasteners).
- Nuclear reactor parts.
- Oil & gas equipment (valves, pump shafts).
- Medical devices and chemical processing equipment.
Fabrication Notes
- Machining: This is best done in the solution-annealed condition (softer state).
- Welding: Possible using TIG or MIG methods; post-weld aging restores properties.
- Precautions: It is Susceptible to hydrogen embrittlement; avoid electroplating without proper baking.
