AMS 5536 is a specification for Hastelloy X Plate & Strip, Hastelloy X (UNS N06002)is a nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum alloy that possesses an exceptional combination of oxidation resistance, fabricability and high-temperature strength. Exhibits good ductility after prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
 
ASTM B435 Hastelloy X Strip is non-magnetic. It has high strength up to 1500ºF (816ºC) and good oxidation resistance up to 2200ºF (1204ºC). This alloy is especially resistant to carburization and nitriding, conditions which cause failure in some high temperature alloys.
 
It is used extensively in high temperature jet engine and chemical processing applications and is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. Industrial furnace applications incorporate Alloy X (UNS N06002) for its resistance to oxidizing and its ability to maintain good ductility after prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures.

Cold Working

Can be readily cold worked and requires a large amount of forming pressure due its high stiffness characteristic. Solution annealing can be performed after this alloy is cold worked.

Welding

Welding processes suitable for Hastelloy X alloy include shielded metal arc welding, resistance welding and TIG or MIG. Usage of a corresponding filler metal is recommended whereas post heating and preheating are not recommended.

Forging

Conventional methods are used for hot forging.

Forming

Standard processing and tooling methods are used for forming different product forms.

Machinability

Conventional methods are used for machining.

Hardening

Can be hardened by cold working and to a limited extent by aging. This alloy cannot be hardened by the standard heating methods.

Heat Treatment

Mostly solution annealed at 1177°C (2150°F) and then cooled rapidly.

Aging

First solution heat treated and then aged at 649-871°C (1200-1600°F). Increase in hardness and strength can be obtained when this alloy is under the aging temperature for prolonged hours.
