AMS 5599 is the aerospace standard. This specification covers a corrosion- and heat-resistant nickel alloy in the form of sheet, strip, and plate up to 1.000 inch (25.4 mm) in nominal thickness.
 
Inconel 625 Nickel Alloy Sheet is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with the addition of niobium for improved strength. Introducing niobium into the alloying process allows greater strength without additional heat treatment. The alloy combines high strength with excellent corrosion resistance and good resistance against crevice corrosion and pitting.

Heat treatment

This alloy has three primary heat treatments:
Solution annealing at 2000-2200°F (1093 – 1204°C) with air or rapid quenching,
Annealing at 1600-1900°F (927-1038°C) with air or rapid quenching,
Stress relieving at 1100-1600°F (593 – 900°C) with air quenching.
Each process results in different characteristics, with the high temperature annealing used for applications above 1500°F where creep resistance is important. The medium temperature annealing provides optimal tensile and rupture properties up to 1900°F (1038°C), while the stress relieved state is recommended for applications under 1200°F (649°C), where maximum fatigue, hardness and yield strength are required.

Corrosion Resistance

The material has a high nickel content resulting in almost immunity from CSCC (chloride stress corrosion cracking). CSCC is a type of intergranular corrosion that affects alloys with low nickel content, such as austenitic stainless steel. Alloy 625 finds typical use in aerospace for ducting and exhaust systems and is also used in heat shields, furnace hardware and chemical plants.
