Selection Recommendations for Aerospace Applications

In the context of aircraft engines and gas turbines, the Incoloy 800 series is typically not employed for the hottest rotating turbine blades—a domain traditionally reserved for alloys such as Inconel 718 or Waspaloy. However, thanks to its excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation and moderate creep strength, it remains a proven and established choice for static high-temperature components.
 
  • Incoloy 800: Suitable for operating conditions below 650°C, such as engine nacelle heat shields. Note, however, that its creep resistance is limited.
  • Incoloy 800H (UNS N08810): This is the predominant grade for aircraft engine casings and ring components. The coarse-grain structure—achieved through a solution annealing treatment at 1100°C—imparts superior rupture strength at temperatures exceeding 650°C.
  • Incoloy 800HT (UNS N08811): A higher combined content of Aluminum and Titanium (≥0.85%) results in enhanced creep resistance. If your components are required to operate for extended periods within the 700°C range, or must withstand frequent thermal cycling, Incoloy 800HT represents a more robust and reliable choice.
